Creamy Icing (for cupcake and wedding cake)

I learned this recipe form a Wedding Cake Decorating.  It is pretty easy to make.  The texture & taste is better than wilton cake decorating course provided recipe.  It is still easy to pipe and handle.  Give the following recipe a try and see if you can create some cute or fabulous looking cupcake for mother’s day this year =)


  • 1 1/2 cups crisco shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter (unsalted!)
  • 1 envelop dry Dream Whip topping
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 to 2 teaspoon of clear vanilla (you can also use regular vanilla extra but the icing will not be as white)
  • 2 lbs sifted icing sugar
  • 1/2 cup hot water

If you have kitchen aid, use it!  It is much easier to mix (I use whisk attachment)!  Cream Crisco and butter together until light.  Gradually add dream whip powder with mixer on slow speed.  Then mix on medium speed until fluffy.  Add vanilla or other flavour and salt.  Alternately add icing sugar and water.  Beat until smooth.  Keep icing in tightly zeal ziploc container and it will last for a few month in your fridge (at least that what the instructor told us ;-)

If that is a bit too plain to your liking.  Just grab some mini mashmallow and in no time, you can create the cutest looking  sheep with this cupcake.
